A visit to Upper Canada Village isn’t complete wit A visit to Upper Canada Village isn’t complete without a stop at Crysler’s Farm Battlefield Memorial Park located adjacent to our living history site!

Steeped in history and surrounded by scenic views of the St. Lawrence River, this site honours the soldiers who fought in the pivotal Battle of Crysler’s Farm during the War of 1812.

The Battle Memorial Building is now OPEN for the season. Nearby the Battle Memorial Monument was recently restored through a collaboration with the Friends of Crysler’s Farm Battlefield Committee. This restoration project not only preserves the site’s legacy but also improves accessibility, ensuring that everyone can meaningfully experience and reflect on this important piece of our shared past. ❤️

Today, we’re proud to work alongside the Friends of Crysler’s Farm Battlefield to protect and share this history. The group hosts an annual Remembrance Day Ceremony atop the memorial mound and a biannual War of 1812 Re-enactment - both incredible opportunities for our community to gather, remember, and learn.

As part of our ongoing series highlighting the her As part of our ongoing series highlighting the heritage restoration work completed this season, today we’re turning our attention to the Flour Mill.

Guests will notice a new wraparound deck, carefully designed to improve accessibility with level entryways for wheelchairs and strollers. The expanded platform not only makes navigation easier but also offers a more inviting and scenic overlook of the pond and surrounding Village. It’s a space where everyone can pause, take in the view, and connect with the landscape.

Behind the scenes on the interior, essential heritage work was also completed, including window restoration, trim and doorway repairs, masonry work, and redressing of the original stonework by our talented staff and contractors - preserving the mill’s authentic 19th-century character.

This is part 1 of a 2-part series. Next week, we’ll take you behind the scenes of the newly built raceway, dam and more - a vital part of the Flour Mill’s operation and a fascinating example of 19th-century waterpower engineering.

Stay tuned as we continue to share more updates from around the Village!

Today marks a significant day as we celebrate Nati Today marks a significant day as we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, and June is dedicated to recognizing National Indigenous History Month. This is a time for all Canadians to honour the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day gives us an opportunity to learn more about Indigenous peoples, celebrate their excellence and achievements, and reflect on the important steps that we can take towards reconciliation.

At Upper Canada Village we understand that true representation requires active participation, and we are dedicated to ensuring that all voices are heard and respected. We recognize that strong community partnerships and relationships are crucial to our shared goal of presenting all facets of history.

Join us today in celebrating the vibrant cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples, and in our continuous journey towards understanding, partnership, and reconciliation.
