Overview

Once a year the St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) hosts a Horse Lovers’ Weekend event at Upper Canada Village over the Labour Day long weekend. The event celebrates our special relationship with the noble Canadian Horse, first introduced to Canada in the 1600s (New France at the time). This well-attended three-day festival showcases riding, driving, and working horses with the help of our Village Interpreters and a variety of community partners. In fair-weather years, the event has seen over 7,000 visitors over the three-days it runs.

IMPORTANT: To achieve an impactful experience and atmosphere within the Village, Upper Canada Village looks for performers and presenters who are talented/knowledgeable about Canadian horses and other breeds of horses, and their respective demonstrations, and whose overall onsite presence provides a highly engaging and visual impact to the setting, including incorporating the 19th century setting and/or costuming into the performance.
